The success of A M Horseboxes began with A M Welding more than 38 years ago. With continued success in the fabrication market, they began to design and re-model the classic rear loading horse trailer.

We work closely with Sussex Asset Finance who specialise in the Equestrian sector.

This helps our customers spread the cost of their new horse transport – allowing you to buy the Bespoke Horsebox of your choice. They work with numerous lenders which enables them to tailor a finance package specific to your needs.

We first called in to see Andy and Sue after a few disappointing viewings of 3.5 ton horse lorries locally. They are only down the road from us so we thought it was worth calling in with no appointment just to have a chat if they were available. Despite having no appointment, we were welcomed in and had a really good chat about what they do, what I was looking for etc. We were really impressed by their set up and ethos and felt their values aligned with what we were wanting too, so after a chat at home, we popped back a couple of days later, paid a small deposit and the rest as they say, is history!

As a horsey woman myself, I’m loathe to say that many of the secondhand boxes being sold had no history and a very vague description often being sold by a woman keen to point out the extra padding or other inconsequential details but with no idea on the important stuff. To us the donor vehicle was as important as all the shiny pretty bits and we weren’t willing to spend our money on something with an unknown history that could have let us down with a horse onboard – that’s the last thing you want when travelling with horses, whether they are multimillion £ racehorses or a child’s pony. Andy and Sue found me a wonderful donor van with a full history and incredibly low mileage which suited us down to the ground and felt confident about and then our build could begin!

We didn’t chose a particularly complicated build spec but at no point did we feel pressured to choose anything extra or upgrade, upping the cost – we were honest with our budget and we came in under despite choosing two tone paintwork afterwards. During the build, we were updated with photos of the progress which was very exciting and we were able to choose any colour/combination we wanted – we settled on some retro colours from the 1950’s but this wasn’t an issue, and also chose a Matt finish so that if we do acquire any scratches or damage that may need a touch up, it will be much easier than on a metallic colour.

On the day of collection, my eyes were closed as we drove up the drive and when I finally opened them I was gobsmacked that the beautiful box in front of me was actually mine! We were given a full walk round and tour, and the workmanship and quality was just outstanding with every detail covered and finished to perfection – my husband said it is too nice to be a horse lorry

! We really appreciate the time, care and personal service we were given by both Andy and Sue and we would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone else thinking of purchasing a lorry – you really will not be disappointed

We are absolutely delighted with our purchase. We did a lot of research, before committing to this purchase. We live around 450 miles away in Scotland – despite this we decided to go with

A M Horseboxes, having researched the competition and also looked at the second hand marketplace.

There were several factors that made us choose A M Horseboxes. When we first enquired, Sue phoned and generously shared very useful information about purchasing this type of vehicle without any element of “hard sell”. Having initially looked round elsewhere (due to the waiting list for an A M Horseboxes) we came back to them, and again had multiple questions answered and sensible advice given before placing our order.

Our box is substantial and well made. The horse area is easy to use, well constructed and solid. We hired an competitors horsebox while waiting for our box to be made and, in our opinion, there was no comparison with build quality. The attention to detail is first class – all the latches and springs work perfectly, everything is well aligned and the ramp is light and easy to use.

The price is highly competitive and we were able to add/take off extras to get to the right budget for us, without feeling as if there was any compromise in appearance or finish. And of course, finally the paint choice is amazing – you can choose literally anything you like!

Dreams come true!

I spent years researching Horseboxes with the whim of owning my own , I identified the big companies with celebrity/professional & corporate endorsements & very scarey price tags so I looked at the lorries I could afford and then read & listened to repeated horror stories on break downs, repairs & losses, so I bought a trailer.

The trailer did the job , but it’s not a box , more years looking & watching, good reviews are rare, small companies

with realistic price tags without bad reviews , rarer still but I found one.

Still I sat & watched, researched more before making a call, I expected disappointment a reason not to purchase but I received reassurance, understanding & time, a lot of time.

Andy & Sue give you time & patience, explaining options, explaining construction, materials, durability, safety, costs, all your concerns legitimate & the not so!

The quality of the vehicles that A M Horseboxes build is heartily & repeatedly endorsed but I think the support & time given in consultation throughout the build needs highlighting, I was a very nervous customer but this has been a very easy process, stress free; other than choosing a colour, that was tricky!

The horsebox is better than we expected. The build quality is excellent – both internal and external.

Everything is finished so well. There are so many little details, that make this a quality vehicle. We wanted a stallion box with day living and room for the carriage. The design of the living has been cleverly thought out, including a sink/hob, wardrobe, bed, cupboards and harness racks. There is more room than I thought. We couldn’t decide on the colour and thank you to Sue and Andy’s suggestions, we’ve got a beautiful and unique horsebox. The pictures on fb don’t do it justice. We are delighted.

Where do we start? A most courteous,knowledgeable, patient, attentive team of true craftsmen. Sue secured us the perfect vehicle within our budget, Andy was extremely patient with us and our thousands of questions. Even when the Governor was away the team ran the operation seamlessly and kept the programme of works on track despite our lorry design being the first of its kind for A M Horseboxes. I would just like to add how fantastic the build of these boxes are! We transported a horse today that decided to kick hard constantly in the back of the box for 20 minutes along the motorway. Nervously we looked at the damage, thinking there must be a few holes in the drivers side. However we were delighted to see that although there were some marks on the rubber wall, it was completely in tack and we feel so confident in the build. After that experience we won’t go to anyone else to get the next box, build is so important!
